Description

ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) is a form of assisted reproductive technology (ART) used in cases of male infertility. During ICSI treatment, a single sperm is directly injected into an egg in a laboratory dish to facilitate fertilization. The fertilized egg (embryo) is then transferred to the woman's uterus. ICSI is typically used when there are issues with the quantity or quality of sperm, such as low sperm count or poor motility. It may also be used when previous attempts at IVF have failed. The ICSI process involves several steps, including: 1.Stimulation of ovulation: The woman is given medication to stimulate her ovaries to produce multiple eggs. 2.Retrieval of eggs: The eggs are retrieved from the woman's ovaries using a needle guided by ultrasound. 3.Preparation of sperm: The male partner provides a semen sample, which is then processed in a laboratory to select the healthiest and most viable sperm. 4.Injection of sperm: A single sperm is injected directly into an egg using a thin needle. 5.Fertilization and embryo development: The fertilized eggs are monitored for several days to allow them to develop into embryos. 6.Embryo transfer: One or more embryos are transferred to the woman's uterus using a thin catheter. ICSI has a high success rate and has helped many couples achieve pregnancy. However, it is important to note that it may not be suitable for everyone, and success rates can vary depending on a range of factors, including age, underlying fertility issues, and the quality of the embryos. It is also a costly procedure and may involve physical and emotional stress for the couple.
